Private Berte Nisbet

Private Berte Russell Nisbet, 2nd Battalion Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in India on 19th July 1944, aged 21. He was the son of James and Elizabeth Nisbet of Twizel, Cornhill-on-Tweed and is buried in Imphal War Cemetery, Imphal, India. He fell in action against the Japanese in the assault and capture of Ukhrul fort, a Japanese strongpoint. Private Nisbet’s name is not inscribed on Coldstream War Memorial but is on the Rodger Kirk Memorial Plaque which can be found on the rear wall of Coldstream Parish Kirk. His name can be found inscribed on the Norham War Memorial.
