Captain William, Lord Dunglass

Captain William Lord Dunglass, Coldstream Guards. He died in America of wounds suffered during the Battle of Guilford Court House. aged 24. He was the son of Alexander the 9th Earl of Home and Primrose Elphinstone daughter of Charles 9th Lord Elphinstone. This Battle was fought on 15th March 1781 during the American War of Independence. A 2,100 British force under General Cornwallis defeated an American force of 4,500 under General Greene. The Earl of Home erected an Obelisk to his son’s memory in the grounds of his Estate at the Hirsel , Coldstream
