Private George Laing, 179th Battalion, Cameron Highlanders of Canada. He died on Service in the Winnipeg General Hospital in Canada aged 25. He had been born in Coldingham and was the son of Jane and the late James Laing. The family had emigrated to Manitoba in 1909 and he was working as a railway car repairer when he enlisted in October 1914. He was soon discharged as medically unfit but undeterred he re enlisted in November 1915. He fell ill once more and died in hospital. He is buried in the Winnipeg ( Brookside ) Cemetery, Canada.
