Private William Bryden Geddes, 21st Battalion ( 2nd Tyneside Scottish ) Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in action in France, aged 31, on 11th September 1917. He had been born in Cockburnspath and was the son of George and Catherine Geddes of Ramheugh Cottage, Castle Dykes, Cockburnspath and the brother of George Geddes ( see above ). He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Thiepval, Somme, France. He had been working as an architect in Cockburnspath when he enlisted in the Royal Engineers before being transferred to the Fusiliers. He fell in an attack and capture of “Farm Trench” in the “Cologne Ridge” sector of the Front.
