Private Alexander Lauder

Private Alexander Lauder, 6th ( Service )Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died, aged 20, on 1st May 1917 in Frensham Military Hospital in Surrey  from complications arising from serious wounds received in France during the Battle of Arras. He had been born in Hawick and was the third son of David and Sophia Lauder of Station House, Cockburnspath. (His father was the Stationmaster at Cockburnspath and he had two other sons serving in France ).  Before enlisting he had been farming with his uncle William Young at Ashfield, Duns. He is buried in Cockburnspath, Parish Churchyard. The photographs show troops during the Battle.
