Sub Lieutenant John William Pollock Mabon, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. He was injured and died in a training accident at H.M.S. “Jackdaw” on 19th October 1944 aged 19. He had been born in Chirnside and was the son of Elizabeth and the late William Mabon of East End, Chirnside. He was the brother of Adam Mabon above and is buried in Chirnside Kirkyard. H.M.S. “Jackdaw” was a Royal Naval Air Station in Fife which specialised in Torpedo training. He had been flying a Fairey Barracuda of 711 Naval Air Squadron when it collided with another aircraft near Fife Ness.
