Private John Herriot, 598th Transport Coy. Army Service Corps. He died on Active Service during the Salonica campaign on 25th November 1916 aged 59. He had been born in Whitsome, Berwickshire and was the son of the late James and Margaret Herriot of Herriot Bank Farm , Whitsome and Tweedsmuir, Chirnside and is buried in Lembet Bank Cemetery, Salonica, Greece. He had enlisted, claiming to be 42 years old, in February 1915 and landed at Salonica in July 1916. He fell ill from malaria and pneumonia and died in the Canadian General Hospital, Salonica. He was one of the oldest Soldiers to die in the Great War.
