Private Alex Spence, 3rd Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died on Service on 13th November 1918, aged 30 and is buried in Chirnside Churchyard. He had been born at Bunkle, Berwickshire and was the son of Alexander and Agnes Spence of East End, Chirnside. He was the husband of Agnes Spence of East End, Chirnside and his Headstone is inscribed ” Gone But Not Forgotten”. Before enlisting in mid 1918 he had been employed as a baker in Chirnside. He had been in training in Ireland when he fell ill and died in the Military Hospital at the Curragh, Dublin.
