Private Christopher Young

Private Christopher Young 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died in Egypt, aged 23, on 23rd April 1917 of wounds received during the Second Battle of Gaza in Palestine and is buried in Kantara War Memorial Cemetery, Kantara, Egypt. He had been born in Carrington, Midlothian and was the son of Christopher and Sarah Young of Fountainhall and Stow It is possible he was wounded in the attack on “Outpost Hill” on the 19th April where heavy casualties were sustained. 6 Officers and 44 Other Ranks were killed and 9 Officers and 152 Other Ranks were wounded. The photographs show the Borderers in Palestine in 1917.
