Sergeant George Bruce

Sergeant/Air Gunner George Bruce, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He died on Active Service, aged 22, on the 27th November 1943. He had been born in Westruther, Berwickshire and was son of Richard and Jane Bruce of Old Peel, Clovenfords, Caddonfoot. He is buried in Caddonfoot Parish Churchyard and the Gravestone is inscribed ” He Gave His Life For His Country”. He was a member of 103 Squadron R.A.F. which flew the Avro Lancaster from R.A.F Elsham Wolds, Lincolnshire. His aircraft was returning from a raid on Berlin when it collided with a Halifax Bomber from 428 Squadron. Both aircraft crashed near R.A.F. Middleton St. George in County Durham.
