Private Robert Woolley

Private Robert Woolley, 1st Battalion, Gordon Highlanders. He was killed in Belgium, aged 23, on the 30th April 1916. He had been born in Leith and was the son of George and Margaret, Woolley of Craig Lodge, Clovenfords, Caddonfoot. He had been employed as a Policeman when he enlisted in Galashiels in May 1915 joining his Battalion in Belgium in September 1915. He is buried in Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery, Flanders, Belgium where his Headstone is inscribed ” He Gave His Life For Freedom’s Cause. In Memory He Liveth Still”.
