Sergeant William Matthew

Sergeant William Johnston Matthew, Black Watch. He was killed in France in April 1917 during the Battle of Arras. He lived at 51 Low Greens, Berwick and was employed as a postman in the town. He had been a Regular Soldier  and had served three years in South Africa and Seven years in India. He left a widow who belonged to Hawick and nine Children. The photos show troops during the Battle.
