Private Thomas Neild, 12th ( Service ) Battalion, Royal Scots. He died in France on 10th May 1917, aged 36, from wounds received in action during the Battle of Arras and is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. He was the son of Mrs Annie Nield and the husband of E. Neild of 23 Grove Hall Drive, Dewsbury Road, Leeds. He was a native of Manchester and had worked and enlisted in Berwick. His Headstone is inscribed ” A Sorrow Too Deep For Words”. The photograph shows British troops and a “little friend” in a captured village near Arras.
