Private Thomas Haswell

Private Thomas Hope Haswell, 1st Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died in Hospital in France  on 15th January 1918, aged 36, of wounds received whilst in the trenches. He had been born in Berwick and was the son of David and Jane Haswell of 26 West Street, Berwick and is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. The Battalion took part in the Battle of Cambrai in late November and early December 1917 and it may have been that it was during this epic struggle that he was wounded. His Headstone is inscribed ” Gone But Not Forgotten”.
