Corporal Ralph Hall, 12th/13th ( Service ) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed by shellfire in France on 4th January 1918, aged 37 and is buried in Heudicourt Communal Cemetery Extension, nr. Peronne, Somme, France. His Headstone is inscribed ” Rest In Peace”. He was the son of Matthew and Phyllis Hall of Tweedmouth and the husband of Jane Hall of 12 Dock Road, Tweedmouth. On that date the Battalion was in Brigade Reserve and suffered two Other Ranks killed and two wounded by random shellfire. The Battalion War Diary does not name the men but it would seem that one was Corporal Hall. Before enlisting in 1914 he had been employed as a sawyer with Messrs. Allan Bros at Tweed Sawmills and was their eighth employee to fall in the War.
