Private Prideaux Patterson, 2nd Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died in France on 5th November 1917, aged 25 from wounds received in action during the Battle of Third Ypres. He was the son of Robert and Elizabeth Patterson of Spittal and is commemorated in the Godewaersvelde British Cemetery, Nord, France. The photographs show the atrocious conditions of the battlefield where the fragile Flanders drainage was destroyed by the incessant shellfire.
