Private Philip Jefferson

Private Philip Jefferson, ” D ” Coy., 2nd Battalion, Durham Light Infantry. He was killed in action in France on 22nd March 1918, aged 34, on the second day of the German Spring Offensive ( Operation Michael ). He was the son of Matthew Jefferson of Alnmouth and the husband of Margaret Brown Jefferson of Ravensdowne House, Berwick. He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Arras, France. The photographs show Allied troops preparing to resist the advancing Germans.
