Private Mark Cockburn

Private Mark Cockburn, 2nd Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in France on 14th September 1914 and is commemorated on the La Ferte-sous-Jouarre Memorial. Nord, France. He was a native of Berwick and had enlisted in Dumfries as a Regular Soldier. He fell during the Battle of the Aisne attacking strong German positions at Chivres. No advance could be made and the Battalion suffered heavy casualties in just holding their ground. The photographs show British troops on the Aisne.
