Private James Swan

Private James Swan, 2nd/10th (Service ) Battalion, Royal Scots. He was killed in action in Russia on 27th October 1918, aged 19. He was the son of Mrs Isabella Swan of 21 Wallace Green Berwick and is commemorated on the Archangel Memorial, North Russia. He had been transferred into the Royal Scots from the Scottish Rifles. The Battalion was part of the force sent to the North of Russia to help White Russian forces in their struggle against the Bolshevik regime. The force landed on 27th August and conducted Operations along the River Dvina and was eventually withdrawn on 10th May 1919. The photograph shows the Royal Scots in Russia.
