Lance Corporal John Kincaid

Lance Corporal John Kincaid, 1st Battalion, Coldstream Guards. He was killed in action in France between 21st and 22nd December 1914, aged 24. He was the son of the late Alex and Annie Kincaid and is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial, Pas De Calais, France. He had been employed as a bank clerk before enlisting in the Regular Army. He fell in the fight at Givenchy where the Battalion recaptured trenches that had been lost in a German attack. Casualties however were heavy with 4 Officers and 10 Other Ranks killed with 1 Officer and 128 Other Ranks wounded. 57 Other Ranks were posted missing. the artist’s illustration shows the Coldstream in action in late 1914.
