Private John Morgan Heckels, ” X ” Coy., 1st/4th ( Territorial ) Battalion, Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He died of wounds in Belgium on 24th July 1917, aged 35 and is buried in Adinkerke Churchyard Extension. Flanders, Belgium. He had been born in Berwick and was the son of John and Margaret Heckels of 75 Morris Street, Gateshead. His Headstone is inscribed ” Until The Day Breaks And The Shadows Flee Away”.
