Private John Gibson

Private John Gibson, 20th Battalion ( 1st Tyneside Scottish ), Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in action in France on 5th June 1917, aged 19, during the Battle of Arras. He was the son of Mr David Walker of Walkergate, Berwick and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Arras, France.He had enlisted under age in September 1914, was trained at Alnwick and went to France in July 1916. Before enlisting in the Northern Cyclists Battalion he had been employed as a baker. He fell in the attack on ” Greenland Hill ” where much heavy fighting took place
