Corporal George Wright

Corporal George Alexander Wright, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and No. 9 Commando. He was killed in action in Italy on 14th April 1945, aged 31 and is buried in Coriano Ridge War Cemetery, Italy. He was the son of Thomas and Annie Wright and the husband of Holly Wright of Tweedmouth. His Headstone is inscribed ” Sonnie Lovingly Remembered By Sandy, Betsa, Mother, Sisters And All At Mansefield”. He fell during the Battle of the Argenta Gap which had been designed to finally defeat the Germans  in Northern Italy using superior air power  and armoured and motorised ground forces. ( 9 Commando ended the War in Italy as part of the 2nd Special Service Brigade ).
