Private George Brodie

Private George Brodie, 1st/5th ( Dumfries and Galloway ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in Palestine on 24th November 1917, aged 34. He had been born in Berwick and was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Brodie of Berwick and is buried in Jerusalem War Cemetery.  He fell in the assault on the Turkish positions at El Jib which had to cover about 2,500 yards over open ground. Some progress was made but the Battalion suffered 87 casualties of whom 16 were killed. The photograph shows Borderers in Palestine.
