Private Gavin Buchanan

Private Gavin Buchanan, 2nd Battalion Gordon Highlanders. He was killed in action in France on 18th June, 1915 aged 29. He is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial, Richeboug, Pas de Calais, France. He was the son of the late Gavin and Mrs. Mary Buchanan, Gunsgreen Hill, Eyemouth and husband of Agnes Buchanan of Corsbie, Earlston, Berwickshire. He fell in an attempt to straighten the front line near Rue d’Ouvert which was unsuccessful and cost the Battalion 147 casualties. It was a rushed assault with unclear orders and uncut German wire with a predictable outcome.
