Sergeant D. Edgar

Sergeant D. W. Edgar, 31st ( Alberta ) Battalion, Canadian Infantry. He was killed in action in Belgium on 6th June 1916 during the Battle of Mount Sorrel and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Flanders, Belgium. This battle took the shape of a heavy German attack in the Mount Sorrel sector which captured some Canadian positions. After several counter attacks the original positions were restored at a cost of some 8,000 Canadian casualties. It was the German intention to disrupt British preparations for the Somme Battle which was to open on 1st July.
