Lance Corporal Adrian George Rattray, 2nd Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was a Regular soldier and was killed in action in France on 26th August 1914, aged 25, during the retreat from Mons. He had been born in Cairo and was the son of John and Louise Rattray of 43 Hugh Street, Pimlico, London and is commemorated on the La Fertte-Sois-Jouarre Memorial. He fell during the Battle of Le Cateau which was fought to delay the German advance and let the rest of the British Expeditionary Force retire in good order which it did. The Battalion casualties that day were 2 Officers wounded and 2 Other Ranks killed with 30 Wounded and 74 missing. The photos show troops before the Battle.
