Second Lieutenant Arthur Pollock Sym Borthwick, 58th Coy, Machine Gun Corps. He was killed in action in France, aged 30, on the 15th April 1918 during the German spring offensive on the River Lys. He was the son of William and agnes Borthwick of Lilliesleaf, Roxburghshire and the husband of Caroline Borthwick of Bootle, Liverpool. He is buried in St. Sever cemetery, Rouen, France where his Headstone is inscribed ” Only Goodnight Beloved Not Farewell His Loving Wife “. the M.G.C. used the Vickers Mk2 water cooled gun in both defensive and offensive roles.
