Fusilier Richard Elliot, 9th ( Territorial ) Battalion, Royal Northumberland Fusiliers. He was captured at the fall of Singapore in February 1942 and died of dysentery whilst a prisoner of the Japanese working on the Burma-Siam Railway on 6th June 1943 aged 26. He was the son of Robert and Margaret Elliot of Berwick-upon-Tweed and is buried in Kanchanburi War Cemetery, Thailand. He had lived at the Castle in Norham.
