Private Davidson Ross Burns, 2nd/4th ( Territorial ) Battalion Duke of Wellingtons( West Riding Regiment ). He was killed in France on 15th April 1917 during the Battle of Arras and is buried in H.A.C. Cemetery Ecouse-St, Mein, France. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Burns of Albion House, Norham. Originally he had enlisted in the 1st/7th ( Territorial ) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers before being transferred to the ” Dukes ” and being wounded on the Somme in September 1916. He had been sleeping in a barn when it was struck by a shell killing him and one of his comrades. They were buried side by side.
