In affectionate remembrance of MAGGIE daughter of RICHARD and JANE LILLICO who died at Coldstream 22nd December 1886 aged 9 years. JANE the above died April 11th 1903. RICHARD LILLICO the above died October 30th 1907.

Commentary

Richard Lillico was born in Wooler Northumberland, England, he was a Butcher and Farmer and lived at 19 Market Place. His wife Jane was born at 4 Market Place West Side. Richard Lillico farmed the Gallowsknowe Farm. In the summer and autumn of 1894, Beatrix Potter visited Lennel House for several weeks and recorded that she had met ‘Mr. Lilicoe’ the butcher who also occupied a farm nearby

When Richard Lillico was born on 5 May 1831 in Wooler, Northumberland, his father, John, was 42 and his mother, Mary, was 43. He had one son and three daughters with Jane Mcallister between 1870 and 1877. He had three brothers and four sisters.

When John Lillico was born in 1789 in Jedburgh, Roxburghshire, his father, JAMES, was 30 and his mother, MARY, was 30. He married Mary Hardy on 17 October 1818 in Doddington, Northumberland. They had eight children in 20 years. He died in October 1869 having lived a long life of 80 years, and was buried in Doddington, Northumberland.
