In loving memory of ROBERT HARDIE REID Coldstream who died 21st September 1922 aged 57 years.

Also CATHERINE BONNER his wife died 26th December 1922 aged 65 years.

Also JOSEPH their son killed in Palestine 28th November 1917 aged 26.

Inscribed at the side of the base with ‘J.Bruce, Kelso, presumably the stone mason).

Military record

Robert Hardie Reid owned the Commercial Inn on the High Street. Joseph was in the 4th KOSB, and is commemorated on the Jerusalem Memorial Palestine.  

Private Joseph Reid, “A “Coy, 1/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in Palestine on 28th November 1917 aged 26. He was the son of R. H. Reid who ran the Commercial Hotel, High Street, Coldstream and is commemorated on the Jerusalem Memorial. He fell in the attack on Suffa Ridge  in Palestine where the Battalion suffered casualties of 1 Officer and 7 Other Ranks killed and 1 Officer and 22 Other Ranks wounded. ” A ” Coy was based in Kelso with a detachment at Jedburgh.

They were married in St Andrews Fife on 16th April 1889
