In loving memory of JANET FAIRBAIRN who died 1st July 1916 aged 21 years.

Also JANET and HELEN FAIRBAIRN who died in infancy. .

Also, WILLIAM who was killed at Gallipoli 12th July 1915 aged 24 years. .

Also ISABELLA wife of WILLIAM EGAN who died 24th September 1923 aged 35 years.

Also HENRIETTA TAIT beloved wife of GEORGE FAIRBAIRN who died 22nd March 1935 aged 77 years.

Also, the above GEORGE FAIRBAIRN who died 23rd Jan 1947 aged 91 years.

Also, JACOB TAIT FAIRBAIRN younger son who died 16th March 1962 aged 59 years. (Interred Edinburgh).

Military record

George was a butcher on the High Street. William was in the 4th KOSB. and was killed in the charge at Achi- Baba-Nullah. This day was known as the Black Day for the Borders due to the heavy casualties suffered by the Battalion on that day.

When William FAIRBAIRN was born on 11 November 1892 in Coldstream, Berwickshire, his father, George, was 36 and his mother, Henrietta, was 35. He had one brother and eight sisters. He died on 12 July 1915 in Gelibolu, Canakkale, Turkey, at the age of 22, and was buried there.

 

Commentary

When George FAIRBAIRN was born on 21 November 1855 in Oldhamstocks, East Lothian, his father, William, was 27 and his mother, Janet, was 28. He married Henrietta TAIT on 22 March 1878 in Earlston, Berwickshire. They had ten children in 24 years. He died in March 1947 in Northumberland at the age of 91

When Henrietta TAIT was born on 14 May 1857 in Earlston, Berwickshire, her father, Jacob, was 42, and her mother, Agnes, was 41. She married George FAIRBAIRN on 22 March 1878 in her hometown. They had ten children in 24 years. She died in March 1935 at the age of 77.

Jacob TAIT was born in 1815 in Greenlaw, Berwickshire. He married Agnes and they had six children together. He also had one son from another relationship. He died on 11 July 1883 in Earlston, Berwickshire, at the age of 68
