(Headstone leaning forward) Erected by JOHN RENTON Joiner Lennel Newtown in memory of ELIZABETH SANDERSON my wife who died 7 October 1859 aged 40 years. Also our mother MARY MAUCHLEN who died 10 January 1865 aged 75 years. Also AGNES WATSON my wife who died 23 July 1902 aged 67 years. Also the above JOHN RENTON who died 12 August 1907 aged 81 years.

Commentary

John Renton was born at Chirnside and lived at Coldstream New Town, his occupation a Joiner. His second wife Agnes was born at Forres, Murrayshire (Moray).
