Erected by THOMAS MOFFAT Blacksmith Fordforge in memory of MARY his wife who died 7 January 1843 aged 25 years. Also his son who died in infancy. Also the above THOMAS MOFFAT who died at Spittal Forge 5 February 1886 aged 71 years.
Commentary
Thomas Moffat was a Blacksmith and Agricultural Implement Maker and he would most likely move to Spittal to work with Black who made Spades and implements, first at Ford then in Spittal.
