In loving memory of Margaret. wife of Charles GORDON who died at Akeld. Aug 19th 1893 aged 37 years
And of Mary Ann his second wife who died at Newcastle Infirmary May 31st 1907 aged 44 years.
And of L.Cpl. Thomas J. GORDON. son of the above named Charles and Margaret GORDON. killed in action in France. May 3rd 1917 aged 31 years.
Also the said Charles GORDON who died at Akeld. March 2nd 1923 aged 63 years.
Military record
Lance Corporal Thomas Johnston Gordon, 1st Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers. He was killed in action in France on 3rd May 1917 during the Battle of Arras. He was the husband of Jean Purdie Gordon and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Arras, France. He had been born in Kirknewton and lived at Bendor, Wooler. He fell in the failed attack at " Infantry Hill " which cost the Battalion 296 casualties including 8 Officers and 87 Other Rank fatalities.
