In memory of col. RALPH HENRY CARR-ELLISON c.m.g of Hedgeley, Dunston Hill, and Hebburn. born at Corfu 22^nd Sept. 1863. died at hedgeley 17^th may 1923. gazetted to the royal dragoons 22^nd Nov. 1884. served throughout the south african war. present at the relief of ladysmith. twice mentioned in dispatches. served during the european war as a.q.m.g. irish C^md mentioned in dispatches, and awarded the c.m.g. retired 20^th Sept. 1918. and of his wife ALICE MARY Daughter of capt. ARCHIBALD CAMPBELL of Glendaruel, Argyllshire. born 26th July 1865 died in london 8^th Sept 1921. both are interred in the adjoining churchyard.
