Private John Grant

Private John Grant, 11th (Service) Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was killed in action in France, aged 29, on the 26th August 1916 during the Battle of the Somme. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of Elizabeth and the late Thomas Grant of Stanley Street, Galashiels and Montgomery Street, Edinburgh. He is buried in Flatiron Copse Cemetery, Mametz, Somme, France. ( His brother Charles also fell during the War – see above ).The photos show Scots troops on the Somme.
