Lance Corporal Thomas George Turnbull, 1st/8th London Regiment ( The Post Office Rifles ). He was killed in Action in France, aged 22, on the 7th October 1916 during the Battle of the Somme. He had been born in Selkirk in 1894 and was the son of Richard and Sophie Turnbull of 4a Bleachfield Road, Selkirk and he is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. He had worked in Selkirk post office for three years before becoming a postman in Burntisland, Fife. He enlisted from there and joined his Battalion in France in October 1915.
