Private Oswald Skeen

Private Oswald Skeen, 13th ( Royal Highlanders of Canada ) Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force. He died at Home on 21st June 1919, aged 32. He was the son of Oswald Skeen of Akeld, Wooler and is buried in Orpington ( All Saints ) Churchyard Extension, Kent. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Oswald Skeen of Whitsun View, Wooler and he had begun his working life as an apprentice tailor with Mr Luke Atkinson of Glendale House. He then moved to Newcastle before emigrating to Canada in 1913 where he joined a Territorial unit ,The Royal Highlanders Of Canada. He had seen much heavy fighting including the Second Battle of Ypres in April 1915. His Headstone is inscribed ” R.I.P.”.
