Schoolmaster Warrant Officer Michael Thomson

Schoolmaster Warrant Officer Michael Thomson, Royal Navy. He died from pneumonia in the Royal Naval Hospital, Chatham, Kent, aged 34, on 12th February 1919 and is buried in Innerleithen Churchyard. He had been born in Edinburgh and was the son of David and Mary Thomson of Edinburgh and the husband of Margaret Thomson of Innerleithen.  He was a school teacher in Whitsome when he enlisted as an Ordinary seaman in June 1916 but in September of that year his rating was changed to Naval Schoolmaster. and in June 1917 to Warrant Officer. He had served aboard H.M.S. “Hecla” which was a Destroyer Depot Ship base  at Lough Swilly, County Donegal.
