Private Thomas Paterson

Private Thomas Paterson. 23rd ( Reserve ) Battalion ,Lancashire Fusiliers. He died from wounds on 29th October 1918 aged 35. He had been born in Westruther and  was the son of Hugh and Alice Paterson of Spottiswood, Westruther and husband of Jessie Paterson of Newbigging Walls, Lauder and is buried in St Ledger Churchyard, Belgium. He was employed as a gamekeeper when he originally enlisted in the 6th K.O.S.B but was later transferred to the Fusiliers. He was wounded during the ” Advance to Victory ” and the photographs show Allied troops pushing after the retreating German Army. ( His brother John also fell – see above ).
