Private John Mavin

Private John Mavin, 14th ( Service ) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in action in France on the second day of the German Spring Offensive ( Operation Michael) on 22nd March 1918 aged 21. He is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial. He was the son of Charles W. and Sarah Mavin of 7 Liddell Terrace, Ferneybeds, Widdrington, Morpeth, Northumberland. The photographs show British troops preparing to meet the advancing Germans.
