Private Walter Smith

Private Walter William Smith, 1st/7th ( Service ) Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders. He died in hospital in France on 10th November 1915 aged 20, of wounds received in action during the Battle of Loos. He was the son of Mr J. and Mrs M. Smith of 65 West End, Tweedmouth and is buried in Lijssenhoek Military Cemetery. Before enlisting he had worked in Messrs Allan Bros. Woodyard. His brother Alexander also fell ( see above ). His Headstone is inscribed ” To Memory Ever Dear Father, Mother & Brothers”. The photo shows the village of Loos after its capture and thr artist’s illustration shows a Battalion attack at Loos led by its pipers.
