Sergeant John Cleghorn

Sergeant John Cleghorn, 8th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in action in Belgium on 16th August 1917 during the Third Battle of Ypres, aged 24. He was the husband of Margaret Shaw ( formerly Cleghorn ) of Low Greens, Berwick-upon-Tweed and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, Flanders, Belgium. He had been a Regular soldier and had served 6 years with the Colours in India and at Gallipoli and had already been wounded in France in 1915. Before enlisting he had been employed as a carter with Messrs. Gray, builders og Berwick.
