Private George McLeod, 2nd Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in action in Belgium on 15th February 1915 and is commemorated on the Menin Gate, Ypres, Flanders, Belgium. He had been born in Newcastle and had enlisted there. On that date the Battalion to tasked to support an attack by the Buffs to capture a German trench. In the event they were not called upon but lay in the open under shellfire for some time and suffered casualties.
