Private Peter Richardson

Private Peter Richardson, 11th ( Service ) Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment. He was killed in action in Belgium on 12th April 1918 during the German Spring Offensives and is commemorated on the Ploegsteert  Memorial, Flanders, Belgium. He had been born at Castle Heaton farm, educated at Tillmouth school and had been employed on Shellacres farm near Tillmouth. He fell during that part of the Offensive known as the Battle of the Lys.  This Unit was a “Pals” Battalion and was commonly known as the” Hull Tradesman” Battalion. The photographs show British troops in makeshift defensives awaiting fresh German advances.
