Major Walter Home

Major Walter Gabriel Home, 6th Dragoon Guards ( Carabineers ), Mentioned in Dispatches. He died on 13th November 1914 of wounds received in action during the First Battle of Ypres on 31st October 1914, aged 41. He was the son of the late Reverend Robert Home of Swinton Parish Church and the late Annie Home ( nee Swinton ) and is commemorated on the Menin Gate, Ypres, Belgium. He was a Regular soldier and had served in the South African War 1899- 1902 as a Brevet Major seeing action at Kimberley, Paardeberg and Diamond Hill. He was mentioned in dispatches and received the Queens Medal with six clasps and the Kings Medal with two clasps. He was married on 5th October 1910 to Helen of Eastbourne, daughter of Colonel John Davidson of Toronto and was survived by her and their two sons.
