Private John Jamieson

Private John Scott Jamieson, 7th ( Service ) Battalion, Cameron Highlanders. He was killed on 25th September 1915 on the first day of the Battle of Loos aged 22. He had been born in Canada and was the son of Mrs Betsy Jamieson of Swinton and is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Dud Corner, Loos, France. 7th Camerons were part of the 15th ( Scottish ) Division which suffered heavy casualties as one of the attacking Divisions. The picture shows an actual attack with the troops advancing into a ghostly cloud of gas and smoke. The second photograph shows the village of Loos after its capture that morning and the third is an artist’s illustration of the Camerons in the attack.
