Private John Gibson

Private John Gibson,  2nd Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died from shellfire wounds in France, aged 26, on 3rd July 1917 and is buried in Roclincourt Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. It is likely he had been transferred from the 1st/4th to the 2nd K.O.S.B.. He had been born in Eyemouth and was the son of John and Agnes Gibson of Swinton Bridgend when he enlisted in Duns in October 1915. He had been secretary of the Total Abstinence Society and the Band of Hope and had won prizes in local shooting competitions. He had joined the Battalion machine gun section in France in September 1916.
